Don’t forget, the Lincoln Park Community Shelter is still collecting donations (but only for a few more days). Their looking for coffee, powdered creamer, sugar, cereal, cereal bars, noodles, rice, pasta, canned goods and other dried goods. You can drop off your items at participating Lincoln Park locations on Clark Street between Fullerton and Diversey. These include: Caribou Coffee, For Your Eyes, Cycle Smithy, New Balance, Lincoln Park Market, Floyd’s Barber Shop, BankFinancial, Frankies in the Park, Starbucks, Basil Leaf Cafe and Elizabeth Grace. One Million Degrees, an organization seeking to improve the marketability of local community college students, eagerly launches this new fundraiser. On February 28 from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. all customers who shop at Brooks Brothers in The Rookery (209 S. LaSalle St.) will receive a 15% discount on everything in the store. Even better, 10% of the evening’s sales will support One Million Degrees in its endeavor to provide its students with clothing appropriate for their professional career. The James Tyree Foundation remembers Jim Tyree, their beloved friend, at this inaugural fundraiser. Besides being a humble and extremely generous man, Tyree served as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mesirow Finacial and the Chairman of Sun-Times Media Holdings. The night will include cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and presentations by some of Tyree’s closest friends.
