Charlene Brooks has been performing her entire life. Her voice has been compared to legendary singer Barbra Streisand with classic jazz and Broadway stylings. A multi-talented entertainer, Ms. Brooks weaves comedy into her one-woman shows, which she performs to sold-out houses in the Chicagoland area.
Brooks combines her love of all types of music, Broadway, swing, pop, and country, with a unique ability to tell hilarious stories that bring the characters in the songs to life. She has appeared at venues throughout the country opening for performers like Tony Bennett and Alan King, and at theaters with her cabaret shows, including Brooks on Broadway, Brooks Sings Barbra Streisand, Big Band Meets Broadway, Confessions of a Cabaret Cantor, a show that brought all of her musical styles and experiences together with outrageous stories. Also, You Call That Love, and her very personal story, Life Stinks! (and other things my mother taught me). In this recent production, she’s delighting audiences with stories and music reflecting on episodes from her youth as the child of two Holocaust survivors.
Brooks also recently created the Custom Cabaret, which utilizes her strengths as comedian, musician and lyricist to create a unique gift. Custom Cabaret is a personalized musical tribute to a person celebrating a milestone birthday, or retirement, and couples celebrating engagements, weddings, anniversaries, or any special moment in a person’s life. Brooks works directly with the person, friend or family member to learn the intricate details of the guest of honor’s life, focusing on the script and the perfect music to create a cabaret performance specifically tailored to the person.
In addition to performing in theaters, cabarets and at private parties, for the last 15 years, Brooks has also been the Cantorial Soloist at Congregation Bene Shalom, HAD (Hebrew Assoc of the Deaf).
